Marriage from God’s perspective

This article serves as a part two to the article "Why Paul Says a Woman Should Have One Husband and a Man Should Have One Wife.”

I admit I lured you into reading the last article, “Why Paul Says a Woman Should Have One Husband and a Man Should Have One Wife.” Some of you desire a second wife because you are unhappy with your first, while others dislike the term "adultery" and would prefer that I avoid discussing the violations of second marriages. Whatever those reasons are, it makes no difference to me, as we are only interested in why God allows a man to have more than one wife. My stance is that God does not have a problem with a man having multiple wives. This is an indisputable truth, no matter how you choose to interpret it or divide it. This is precisely what modern-day ministers do. They dissect the truth, presenting only the parts they like for themselves and what they want you to hear. I’m not like that at all. I inform you what the scriptures say and show you why they say what they say, and then I provide the significance to those who actually want to hear the truth. So in this article, I will show you what the scriptures say about marriage and maybe provide the meaning, but I will withhold the significance because Satan uses pretenders to distort the meaning of the truth.

 

Satan has for centuries endeavored to taint the purity of the truth, and he uses people to do it. People today, just like our ancestors, have misinterpreted God's conception of marriage in diverse ways. Most people perceive the truth about marriage as a complex and challenging concept to comprehend. Needless to say, because I am writing this article concerning God’s perspective of marriage, many will pass off my understanding of the truth as another idea. These individuals may believe it is challenging to understand the truth, but they criticize me for stating that I have working knowledge of what God wants us to know. Therefore, I will allow these individuals to do as they wish, but for those who really want to understand marriage, I pray you pay close attention.

 

God begins to reveal his idea of marriage with this statement:

 

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.” 

Genesis 2:18-20 NASB

 

God sought to solve the problem in which Adam found himself while in the Garden of Eden. Adam was alone, so God began creating him a help that was suitable for him. Unfortunately, no help suitable for Adam was found among the animals that God created. Now you have insight into why the animals were created. It wasn't a wonderful upgrade for his creation. Since God did not identify a suitable option for Adam to live with, God took a different approach. Moses tells us God did this:

 

So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:21-22 NASB

 

God solved the problem that Adam had by creating a woman. But it is how God did it that is the most important, so pay attention. God created a helpmeet suitable for Adam by taking a member from his body and creating a woman. Then God brought her to the man. I hope you paid attention to where attention is due! For the individual who is not too quick to pick up on things, I will state it another way. The woman was a member of Adam’s body, so God brought the woman—the member of his body—back to Adam.

 

As a result of this activity, Adam makes a statement that is so clear a baby should be able to understand:

 

‘ “The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.’”  ‘ Genesis 2:23 NASB

 

Adam said that the woman that God created IS bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh. As a result of this statement, Moses provides us with his commentary statement by writing this:

 

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 NASB

 

The most important phrases in this statement are in bold. For what reason will a man leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and become ONE FLESH? God created a woman from a part of "the man's" body and brought her to him. However, the most significant aspect is Adam's response to God bringing him the woman. So I will provide my provisionary translation of Genesis 2:22-24.

 

21) [and [Yahuah] [Elohim] caused to fall] [upon The Man] [a deep sleep] [and he slept] [and he took] [one] [from his ribs] [and he closed] [{the} flesh] [in place]. 22) [and [Yahuah] [Elohim] rebuilt] [the rib] [which] [he took] [from The Man] [for a woman] [and he caused her to come] [to] [The Man] 23) [and [The Man] said], “[this] [{is} now] [bone] [from my bone] [and flesh] [from my flesh] [for this] [she will be called] [a woman] [because] [for [this] she was taken] [from a man].” 24) [So] [therefore] [a man will leave] [his father] [and his mother] [and will join] [in his woman] [and they will be] [one] [flesh].” Genesis 2:21-24 —My Translation

 

The point that Moses wants us to see is that “the woman” that God rebuilt was brought back to “the man” as a member of his body to become “one” with “the man” because she is a member of his body. The two, “The Man” and “The Woman,” became one flesh. So therefore… [A man will leave] [his father] [and his mother] [and will join] [in his woman].  Every woman who joins a man is a member of his body, not the other way around. 

 

The question that should be obvious is “how?” Moses offers comprehensive details on the process of merging a male and a female into one flesh. Well, one place we can look is how Rebekah became Isaac’s wife. Do you remember the story? Abraham sent his slave to locate a woman for Isaac. Rebekah consented and spoke to her family. The slave made the request called “a betrothal,” which means to request to take a daughter of a family. Then he paid the dowry, the price for virgins, and he brought Rebekah to Isaac. If you look at the word “betrothal,” it is a promise that a marriage will take place. The problem with today’s understanding of marriage is that the term has taken on a modern meaning rather than an ancient one. We will come to that in a second. When Abraham's slave returns with Rebekah, the marriage will take place this way:

 

“And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.” Genesis 24:67 KJV

 

Now the way Rebekah became Isaac's wife is hidden to the unsuspecting eye. So here's my translation in Hebrew:

 

67) and Isaac caused her to come {into} the tent of Sarah, his mother, and he took Rebekah, and she became his woman, and he loved her, and Isaac was comforted after his mother died.” Genesis 24:67 —My Provisionary Hebrew Translation

 

Notice the bolded text in my translation. The phrase “he took Rebekah” is an idiom. It means that Isaac had sexual intercourse with Rebekah, which is why the phrase “she became his woman” is tied to the idiom by the use of a conjunction. Below I have provided another place where the idiom is used:

 

“13) [And he [will take]] [a woman] [in her virginity] 14) [a widow] [and one driven out] [and a polluted one] [{or} a religious Zonah], [these] [he will [not] take] [because] [surely a virgin] [from his people] [he will take] [{for} a woman].” Leviticus 21:13-14 —My Provisionary Hebrew Translation

 

The reason a man could not take a widow, a divorced woman, a polluted woman (which is a woman who has been divorced twice), or a religious Zonah (harlot) is because what they have in common is that they are no longer virgins. This means that a woman that lost her virginity is one who, at the least, is still a woman that is married to a man. The idiom “take a woman in her virginity” is most certainly referring to a man having sexual intercourse with a virgin. This virgin at the point of intercourse is considered married to a man and has become “one flesh” with him. The terms "married" and "husband" come from the same Hebrew root word. The word belongs to Baal. The term “Baal” means “Master.” When this term is used to describe the relationship of a man to a woman, it means “possession.” The woman is the “possession” of the man who is called her “husband,” which is the English translation of the term “Baal.” The English translation hides the truth concerning the relationship of the man to his (possessive) woman. The term means “master.” The husband is the master to his woman because she is his possession.  Should you doubt this, I will point you to a statement Peter made concerning Sarah, Abraham’s woman:

 

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” 1 Peter 3:6 KJV

 

The Greek word for the English term “lord” means “master” or “possessor.” This is why the verse that comes before verse six talks about the wife being in subjection to their husbands. But if I need to take you to the source for the reason a man has rulership over a woman, a constant problem for feminists, let me show you what God has said:

 

“16) [to the woman] [he said] [the cause to increase] [I will cause to increase] [your labor pain] [and your conception,] [in sorrow] [you will engender] [sons], [and to your man] [{is} your longing] [and [he will rule over you].  Genesis 3:16 —My Provisionary Hebrew Translation

 

With that said, I will add more to this topic in another article. I think it is best to let those who see an issue with how God thinks about marriage take a break from the topic.
