Roots of Germanic Paganism in Christianity - Before the spread of Christianity, Europeans shared many pagan religious beliefs. By the Middle Ages, Christianity had become so ingrained in Europe that the region was commonly referred to as Christendom and its pagan roots were rarely mentioned. However, a point that is often overlooked is that the Christianization of Europe was not as absolute as we are led to believe. The roots of Germanic paganism persisted long after Europe had been officially Christianized. The blending of European Paganism with Christianity led to the adaptation of pagan rituals, holidays, and symbols into Christian celebrations. Christian leaders strategically used these beliefs to gain acceptance within various cultures.#paganism #religion #heathens
