Black Wall Street series: 7 Frameworks of Racism-Microaggression-part 12
Who Destroyed Black Wall Street? Part 12: Featuring the Architect of Black Wall Street and Understanding Microaggressions
In this powerful Part 12 installment of Who Destroyed Black Wall Street? sis CC explores the vision and legacy of O.W. Gurley, widely recognized as one of the principal architects of Tulsa's Greenwood District, known nationally as Black Wall Street. However, the success of Greenwood was met with racial hostility that culminated in the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, when a white mob, aided by local authorities and fueled by white supremacy, destroyed more than 35 blocks of Black-owned homes, churches, schools, and businesses. The massacre claimed lives, displaced thousands of residents, and attempted to erase a thriving model of Black economic empowerment.
As we reflect on the overt racism that devastated Black Wall Street, we also examine one of the more subtle frameworks of racism still operating today: Microaggressions. If this is your first time here, welcome. Be sure to watch all eleven parts, share with family and friends, and share your experiences dealing with microaggressions.
