What's actually happening on the African continent. The truth about the use of relaxers in Nigeria. Let's talk about it
My instagram: @seunokimi
In the documentary, I explore the truth about the use of relaxers in Nigeria. With all the talk about Natural hair going on now among the diaspora, a lot of people don’t know that the use of relaxers in African countries is actually very prominent and that similar natural hair “movements” have started taking root I African countries as well, but for reasons many Americans may not expect. In telling the the history of black hair in Africa and story of relaxers in Nigeria, my goal is to also tell a story of Nigerian women as a whole, bringing light to Nigerian culture and ways. Africa has a lot of under-told stories, and the story of hair, and especially as it relates to the natural hair movement happening in America right now is one of them. I talk about African hair culture and the natural vs. relaxed hair debate that is happening in Nigeria. By going through African hair history through the stories of my grandmother and others in the video, the documentary walks you through things like traditional Nigerian hairstyles, some history of braids in Africa, ancient African hair care, African hair styles, and traditional African braids, down to modern day practices of how hair is currently done in Nigeria. The video goes through the history of black hair in Africa, African cosmetology history, and how it relates to African American hair history, facts, the history of black hair discrimination, and black hair and cultural identity. It also goes through things such as an examination of what is "good" hair in the black community from the African perspective, the importance of hair in different cultures such as the Nigerian culture, black hair story, black hair salon culture and braiding culture in Nigeria, and some of the politics or lack of politics surrounding black women's hair in Nigeria. By showing the history of relaxers, the evolution of black hair in Nigeria, and African hair culture, this documentary explores the truth about what is actually happening with hair in African countries such as Nigeria and why.

Whoever ears this album may touch I hope they listen. These songs were sent to me by Yah (God) for me to share with you. These songs were given to me in April, way before the police riots and the racial tension. Way before my life changed as drastically as it is starting to and many more things Yah (God) led me to speak about that will come to past in the near future. Please share this album. Not for myself, but so others may wake up to the things that are to come. I take no credit for any of the work I put out. It is all the work of Yah (God). Thank you and please be safe!

Everyone on this Earth has a purpose and calling. Whether if you're in YAH (God) or not. Even if your birth wasn't planned by your parents, it was planned by someone much greater.
But, at the same time what is the use of calling someone who doesn't answer? God is calling all of us. It is up to us to either stop declining the call and running away from our purpose or simply answer the call by learning about him and seeking him
.
Sometimes we are born with talents and we assume that they are our calling and we may be right, but it's best to trust Yah and give our talents up to him. He may help you sharpen skills you need on your journey you never knew you lacked.
Will you answer his call?

What made the Black Panther Party successful, as well as politically dangerous? In his very personal talk, activist and historian, Dr. Curtis Austin tells his story of being labeled a 'felon' as a result of his research on the Black Panther Party. Dr. Austin details the major successes of the Black Panther Party and the key action behind those successes. Using his personal experience, years of research, and some gruesome realities, Dr. Austin contextualizes the recent outcry by people across the United States against the legacy of the Black Panther Party and the Black Power Movement.
Dr. Curtis Austin is an Associate Professor in the Department of African American and African Studies (AAAS) at the Ohio State University. He received his B.A. and M.A. in U.S. History from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Ph.D. in American History from Mississippi State University. While serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies in AAAS, Austin teaches courses on the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, the Black freedom struggle, and the history of American race relations. He is currently writing a book on the Black Power Movement and conducting research for a book that examines the history of radicalism in Black liberation movements. Dr. Austin has won numerous awards that honor his work including the C. Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Award. In 2007, his book, "Up Against the Wall: Violence in the Making and Unmaking of the Black Panther Party", won the Choice Library Journal’s Outstanding Academic Book Award.

Sultry tones and a heart split open in scattered eighth notes, Te'La offers an outpouring of ethereal ballads and original arrangements. Rowdy Sessions is a cry for love from a sweet and mellow yet rebellious singer-songwriter.
