In 1803, at Dunbar Creek on St. Simons Island, Georgia there was a mass suicide of captive Igbo people who had taken control of their slave ship and refused to submit to slavery in America. The Gates of Huldah has uncovered the rich history of the relationship that existed between the Natives and Blacks for centuries before Christopher Columbus came to America. You will also learn about the Doctrine of Discovery that was sanctioned by the Catholic Church. This little-known doctrine promoted European domination and the enslavement of these two groups.
