Kimpa Vita was a Prophetess from The Congo who preached that the people of the Congo were the people of the Bible. She preached that Yahshua and his mother were Black. Many categorize her as Catholic and yet she preached against the lies of Rome. Her message was preached in the 1700's and was so powerful she was killed and her followers sold into slavery!

In November 2017 I was blessed to visit Yahweh Our Redeemer Sabbath Synagogue (YORSS) in Imo State, Nigeria to minister to the women. This Shabbat I was blessed with a visit from my YORSS family: Rabbi Joshua Olouah-Johnson, Mother and High Court Judge AdaZion Onii Egbunine (who was invited to America to represent Nigeria at a international conference for judges) and Abigail Onii Egbunine, Social Media Minister for the Synagogue and Medical Student. They visited my home congregation Beth-El The House of Yah.
Rabbi Johnson gave a powerful message of encouragement to Hebrews in the diaspora which Abigail translated from his Igbo language.

Let us not allow enemies, fear or governments stop us from coming together we know evil plans exist but we also know there is power in unity. Trust me above everything else our coming together is what they fear the most. #ToYahBeTheGlory

Thousands of women across West Africa have been enslaved by a centuries old practice called “trokosi”. Girls are forced to live and work with priests in religious shrines, for the rest of their lives, to “pay” for the sins of family members. Although the practice has officially been banned in Ghana, it’s still happening there and in other parts of West Africa but on a smaller scale.
Twenty years after she was freed from this practice, Brigitte Sossou Perenyi goes on a journey to understand what trokosi really is and why her family gave her away.

Through a tradition called "money marriage", some young girls are used as currency in a type of modern slavery among the Becheve people in southern Nigeria. Children are sold to men as old as 90 to settle debts or as a form of payment. BBC Africa hears from the girls themselves, an elderly husband and the man fighting against the custom.

![City States and Civilisations - History Of Africa with Zeinab Badawi [Episode 11]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/83tbMJGjndw/maxresdefault.jpg)

In this episode, we see how city states and kingdoms gave rise to rich and diverse civilisations, including some of the most iconic works of art on the continent: the Benin bronzes, dating back to the 13th century.
Zeinab Badawi travels to Nigeria where she is granted a rare interview with the King of the Benin kingdom in southern Nigeria. She meets the Queen Mother of Lagos, at her ancestral palace on Lagos Island where she relates the history of the Yoruba people.
And Zeinab also has an audience with the former governor of Nigeria’s central bank who became the Emir of Kano, one of northern Nigeria’s Muslim city states.
