“The Cry of Mattathias” retells the grief recorded in 1 Maccabees 2:1–14, where a righteous priest named Mattathias witnessed the destruction, blasphemies, and suffering that overtook Jerusalem.
This chapter reveals:
• the lineage of Mattathias, a priest of the Joarib order

At one time up to 50% of the population in some regions was Afrodescendant. The population was dramatically reduced in the 19th century due to three main factors: war, disease and racist government policy.
